The iPad 3 and Heaven: No One Really Knows
Run a Google search on the term “iPad 3″ and you’ll find no shortage of tech websites all proclaiming to know what’s coming down the pike with the new tablet from Apple. Truth be known though, facts about the iPad 3 are few and far between. In fact the only thing we do know for sure, is that it’s coming. But true to secretive Apple form, we even have to speculate on a release date of early March.
I suppose that’s part of the Apple mystique. It’s also part of what causes countless numbers of mind-numbed Apple fans to purchase every device that comes out of the company, regardless of how insanely expensive or utterly worthless it might be. If you don’t know what I mean, just consider the iTouch. It’s nothing more than an iPhone without the ability to make calls. Anyway, let’s not digress. Instead let’s use this space to add our predictions of what the new iPad will feature. If they fail to come true, we never had this conversation.
A6 Processor
Everyone who’s anyone says apples 3rd iPad will sport an A6 quad-core processor that might possibly put high-end laptops and desktops to shame. We’re not so sure about that, given the fact that plenty of knowledgeable people believe the A6 won’t be ready for market until late summer of this year. But perhaps Apple knows something we don’t. If they pull it off the iPad 3 would be in line with tablets using an NVIDIA or QUALCOMM quad-core.
Operating System
One of the most intriguing aspects of the iPad 3 will be its operating system. Always one to loathe Microsoft, Apple tries to stay one step ahead of Redmond. Yet Microsoft has decided to blur the lines between the tablet, smart phone, and laptop by integrating everything into a single OS called Windows 8. That OS is expected to début this spring. The question then becomes whether Apple will use iOS 5 or port Lion to the tablet. For all we know the uber cool developers over at Apple could marry the two and come up with a very strange offspring none of us recognizes. We’re betting the Lion port will be in play if Windows 8 takes off.
Everything Else
Once you get past the processor and OS everything else is elementary. It will be lighter and thinner than its predecessor, yet how much thinner they can get without simply releasing a piece of paper we don’t know. Rumours suggest the battery will be both thinner and more powerful, the retina display will be included, and Siri, that pretentious but sophisticated voice that got her start on GPS devices, will be talking to you as you navigate your menu system.
If you’re an Apple fan anticipating the release of the iPad 3 all we can say is: head for the light….head for the light!
